Case Study #08

Retro Cinematic MOGRT Suite for Pillarboxer

Developing a high-fidelity, analog-emulated template ecosystem with advanced custom rigging for a cinema-focused channel.

Project Overview

The creator of the cinema-focused channel "Pillarboxer" required a reusable toolkit of intros, outros, and lower-thirds that combined modern timeline flexibility with an authentic retro, analog feel. Over a year of continuous collaboration, the project scaled from basic layout conversions into a highly optimized, feature-rich graphics ecosystem.

Technical Milestones & Specifications

Milestone 01

Retro-Analog Emulation

Recreated precise A24-style chromatic aberration, scanline ghosting, and organic noise. Built dedicated MOGRT control sliders for both blur radius and color fringing (CO Opacity) to let editors toggle between analog dirt and pin-sharp digital lines.

Milestone 02

Decoupled Speed Engines

For the customized line-reveal template, programmed an expression framework that separated animation speeds—allowing independent control over line movement velocity and text reveal acceleration.

Milestone 03

Audio Sync Calibration

Hardcoded frame-accurate timing offsets to perfectly lock the client's signature audio sting to the precise moment of the split-screen visual cut.

Solving Premiere Pro Architecture Limitations

The Image Reset Workaround

Premiere Pro MOGRTs natively lack a "remove asset" function once an image is dropped into a placeholder slot. To solve this UI limitation, I engineered an integrated opacity override slider, allowing editors to smoothly fade out or instantly hide background images to fall back on core brand colors.

Geometric Fixes

Rewrote masking constraints to permanently eliminate sub-pixel rendering artifacts (white edge lines) during high-speed screen-split wipes, removing the need for manual timeline scaling.

System Controls Summed Up

The final deliverables provided 100% control inside Premiere Pro:
